Background: Rick LaMere
Rick LaMere is the former and now retired Resident Agent in Charge of the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration, US Department of Justice). He formally supervised the DEA Offices in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and in Rock Island, Illinois. As a result, he directly and indirectly supervised law enforcement personnel from many different departments and agencies such as the DEA, FBI, ATF, IRS, INS, ICE, US Marshal Service, state Special Agents, local Sheriffs and city Police investigators.
He had been in law enforcement since 1971. He has held positions as a Military Policeman in the US Army, as a State Juvenile Probation Officer, Patrolman, Detective, Federal Special Agent, and Supervisory Special Agent. During his career he has specialized in infiltrating criminal groups and organizations. Many of his law enforcement assignments dealt with operating undercover, investigating auto thefts, vice, and narcotics trafficking. He has been recognized as an expert witness in local, state and federal courts. Throughout his career he has also provided training to police departments, police academies, fire departments, hospitals, schools, civic groups, and businesses. He has provided instruction in firearms training, defensive tactics, narcotics investigations, drug prevention, clandestine lab investigations, report writing, financial investigations and undercover techniques.
He is a graduate of Indiana University, with a Bachelor degree in Business. He has received hundreds of hours of law enforcement related advanced and specialized training through the U. S. Department of Justice.
Presently, he works as a contracted investigator for the U. S. Defense Department, and as a Juvenile Court Tracker, in Jones County, for the Central Iowa Juvenile Detention Center. He also serves on the Rural Advisory Committee for the Sixth Judicial District Department of Correctional Services.
He has lived in Jones County since 1990 with wife Dawn. All three children attended Anamosa Schools and all have graduated from Iowa colleges. Sons Joe and Luke are Policemen in Iowa, while daughter Amber works for the U. S. Attorney’s Office in Wisconsin. He also has three grandchildren.
